Mark Manson touched upon the same idea while comparing Emeril Lagasse and Anthony Bourdain.

Emeril went for the money. He 'sold out' and was shilling a bunch of canned soups and cheap cookware, and Anthony was like, wtf bro.

Anthony went his own way- maintaining a huge amount of control over his travel/food show and the stories he told, down to the song choices on each episode.

Anthony Bourdain's net worth (at time of death): $1.2 Million
