Don't know what to say? Write 5 fast options.
I've been making many brand-new friends here in Austin. Yay!
Here's the deal. Once I get to know you, I let loose and I'm really quirky and goofy and wonderful. But before then, I get a bit scared and clam up.
Most of my new friends originate from places like Twitter and I get to write to them before we meet in person. THANK GOD. So what I do is, if I want to be engaging but I suck that day, I just quickly write 5 possible things I could say.
It usually goes like this.
- Hi. I don't know you and I don't know what to say but like, we should meet.
- Hey. Let's meet for food?
- Howdy! I hear Veracruz has a mean breakfast taco, wanna join?
- I heard that you aren't allowed to call yourself an Austinite until you've had breakfast tacos at Veracruz. Noon on Saturday?

Sometimes, as you can see from the above, I don't need 5 tries to get it right. But every time I write a new response, it gets better. Try it and let me know how it goes!
