[Newsletter] How to Edit a Book in 30 Days

30 days ago, I was stuck in the 'second draft death zone' with my book.

Now, I'm fully done editing my 2nd draft 🙌, and I improved my book 9% in the process! My goal was to edit the whole draft in 30 days, but I completed it just 24, along with taking 7 days off for family+friends.

How did I edit a draft with just 17 days of work? I compiled a day-by-day account of my editing so you can follow along if you're editing a draft of a book, too. You can find it here.

What else am I up to?

I'm in Pittsburgh until Monday, and then off to the greater DC area for an undetermined amount of time to visit family and write write write.

I'm writing and learning about writing ~70 hours/week. Obsessed. Can't tell you how good it feels to be immersed in something.

The book is still a mess in many ways. Jay Papasan once told me, "Your first book is learning how to write a book," and man, was he right.

Other Thoughts/Thangs

I'm realizing that the best friendships/relationships/partnerships involve the inspiration loop. This is where you do something impressive which inspires your partner to do something impressive which inspires you to do something impressive which inspires your partner to do something impressive which... you get the picture.

Think about the people you adore most in this world– chances are, you both likely have an inspiration loop in there.

On an unrelated note, I wrote a short story about how most independent stores (and people) are copies of a copy of a copy, and it did well on twitter in case you'd like to take a looksie:

That's all for now! Expect a weird artistic short story in the next couple days.

Sending BIG HUGS,
Madi
